Am I a Good Candidate For Invisalign?

By Devin Walsh January 25, 2022 0 comments

You don't necessarily have to go with traditional metal braces. Many patients don't want to, and for understandable reasons. Traditional metal braces are more noticeable, and some people feel awkward walking around with them as an adult. Fortunately, there is an alternative — Invisalign braces. Invisalign braces are more difficult to spot with the naked eye, especially from a distance. Additionally, you're able to remove your Invisalign braces as you eat so you can continue to eat foods that would be restricted with traditional metal braces.

You may be questioning whether or not you're a good candidate for Invisalign braces. Let's find out what constitutes a good candidate for this treatment option.

1. You're An Older Teen or Adult

Generally speaking, it's recommended that a patient using Invisalign braces be in their late teens at the youngest. This isn't for medical reasons, but rather because these types of braces come with a certain level of responsibility. As previously mentioned, Invisalign braces need to be removed as you eat and when you brush your teeth. Still, they are worn for 20 to 22 hours a day, and it's important that you don't lose them.

2. You're Financially Ready

You either need to be able to cover the cost of Invisalign or you need to have someone in your life who can do it for you. The cost for Invisalign is typically between $3,000 and $9,000. This isn't very different from what you would pay for traditional braces, and it is often covered at least in part by insurance. Still, through insurance or otherwise, you need to be able to handle the cost for Invisalign.

3. Your Dental Issues Can Be Addressed By Invisalign

According to Sesamecommunications.com, Invisalign braces come with a 96% patient satisfaction rate. Even so, they can't resolve every dental issue. Invisalign braces can usually address all of the problems that traditional braces would be able to, like crowded teeth, teeth with gaps, protruding teeth, underbites, overbites, and more. However, if you have unusual dental issues, you may need to address whether or not Invisalign can resolve them with your orthodontist.

4. Your Gums Are Healthy

If you have gum disease, you may need to have it resolved before you move forward with Invisalign braces. Your gum disease could potentially be aggravated by the treatment. Again, this should be addressed with your orthodontist.

Remember to ask your orthodontist questions about your Invisalign braces first! If you want to know if you are a great candidate, reach out to the professionals at Evenly, today!
